Rosewood wooden holly sprig with three red rattan balls as berries and a string to hang it up. Festive chew and play toy. Read more.
Holly belongs to Christmas, but a real holly branch does not belong in your pet's enclosure. That is why this holly sprig from Rosewood's Cupid & Comet Christmas line is made of wood. It consists of two green wooden holly leaves with three red rattan balls as berries. The sprig has a string to hang it up. That gives you a Christmas touch in the enclosure that your pet may really use as a chew and play toy.
The sprig measures 16 × 3 cm and weighs 32 grams. It is light, so your pet can easily grab it, drag it away and toss it around. Rabbits and guinea pigs mainly nibble on the rattan balls. Rats, hamsters and degus hold it between their front paws and gnaw on the edges of the leaves. Because the sprig is small, it suits rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats and degus, although for a large rabbit it is mostly a little extra.
You can hang the sprig on the side of the enclosure, at a height your pet can just reach. It then has to stretch and pull, which is good exercise. You can also remove the string and simply put the sprig in the hay. Hide it in a pile of Zooply hay for rabbits, for guinea pigs or for degus, and your pet will go searching for it first. Hay remains the basis of the menu. The sprig is an extra.
An important tip for the holidays: do not give your pet real holly, sprigs from Christmas arrangements or other Christmas plants. If you are unsure whether a plant or branch is safe, do not give it. With this wooden sprig you get the Christmas feel without that risk. Wood and rattan may be gnawed. That is normal and what the sprig is meant for.
Check the string for fraying now and then. Remove it if it starts to fray or if your pet eats it. Replace the sprig when too much has been gnawed away. Keep it dry, and remove it if it has become wet or dirty. After Christmas you can simply keep using the sprig as a chew toy.
