In the woods, a tree trunk is the perfect hiding place for a mouse. The plush house Boomstam from Duvo+ brings that image indoors, but soft. It is made of soft plush and gives your pet a cosy nesting feeling. With its tree trunk shape, it is a great accessory for the enclosure that goes nicely with wood, cork and other natural materials.
Mice and dwarf hamsters are small and quickly feel vulnerable in an open space. A sheltered, soft spot helps them settle down. In this house they can curl up, sleep during the day and retreat for a while. It is also a fun activity: your pet crawls in and out, sniffs around the opening and may drag some nesting material inside. That way it makes the spot its own.
Place the house in a quiet part of the enclosure, on a thick layer of bedding. You can press it a little into the bedding, so it looks as if the tree trunk is half buried. That fits nicely with a natural layout of twigs, moss and dried flowers. Put some nesting material nearby; your pet will drag it over itself. Do not place the house right next to the water bottle, so the plush stays dry.
At 9 × 9 × 10 cm, this is a small house. It is only suitable for mice and dwarf hamsters. For them, it is a cosy, well-fitting nest. For a Syrian hamster or gerbil it is too small. If you have a group of mice, add several hiding places so every animal can choose its own spot.
Put a handful of Zooply nesting material around the house and provide a thick layer of Zooply bedding to dig in. Plush is soft, but not meant to be eaten. Check during the first few days that your pet does not gnaw the fabric or swallow bits. If it does, remove the house and choose a wooden one.
No. At 9 × 9 × 10 cm it is too small for gerbils and Syrian hamsters. It is made for the very smallest: mice and dwarf hamsters. For gerbils, choose a larger house, preferably made of wood.
This house is meant to be placed in the enclosure. It works best on the floor, in or on the bedding. If you want a plush house to hang, have a look at the plush house Pompoen.
Mice gnaw a lot. So check carefully during the first few days that your mouse does not swallow bits of fabric. If it does, remove the house. A wooden house is then a better choice, because it may be gnawed.
Shake the house out regularly and brush bedding and hairs off the plush. Remove dirty nesting material and keep the house dry. Mice mark their spots with scent, so do not clean everything completely all at once.
Yes, that is a nice combination. Together, the tree trunk and the mushroom create a little woodland in the enclosure. That way your mice or dwarf hamster have several spots to choose from.
