A short rest between climbs, or an afternoon nap with a view over the whole enclosure. The small Duvo+ Carrot plush hammock is made for exactly that. At 27 × 27 cm it is compact enough for smaller enclosures, and soft enough to really sink into. The cheerful carrot design instantly makes the enclosure a bit cosier.
A hammock adds an extra layer to the enclosure. While the floor is for digging and foraging, a hammock is a place to rest and look around. Mice and rats are agile climbers and use a hammock as a lookout. A hammock gives them a cosy nesting feeling and a fun activity: climbing on, jumping off and climbing back on again.
The hammock is easy to hang in any enclosure. Hang it at different heights and see where your pet likes to lie best. For gerbils, hang it low, just above the bedding, as they are mainly diggers. For mice and rats it can go higher, as long as they can reach it easily. A second hammock at another height makes the enclosure even more varied.
At 27 × 27 cm this is the small version. It suits one or two rats, a few mice or gerbils together, or a degu. If you have a larger group of rats or ferrets, choose the large 46 × 46 cm hammock. Degus chew a lot. So with them, keep an extra close eye on whether they leave the fabric alone.
Plush is soft, but not meant for chewing. During the first few days, check carefully that your pet does not chew it or swallow bits of it, and remove the hammock if you see that. Check for loose threads as well. Put a soft layer of Zooply bedding for mice or for gerbils under the hammock.
Yes, mice are good climbers and often love a hammock. Do not hang it too high and make sure there is a soft layer of bedding under the hammock.
One or two rats lie on it comfortably. For a larger group, the large 46 × 46 cm Carrot hammock is a better choice.
It can, but degus chew a lot. Keep a close eye on whether your degu chews the fabric or swallows bits of it. If it does, remove the hammock and choose a wooden alternative.
Take the hammock out of the enclosure and shake it out. Brush off hair and bedding and keep it dry. Check straight away for loose threads.
Yes, and your pets will enjoy that. Hang two or more hammocks at different heights. That way they can climb, choose and switch spots.
