Wide wooden house with a bark roof, made of quality wood. A safe place to rest, play and gnaw for guinea pigs and rats. Read more.
The Duvo+ Hacienda is a wide, low wooden house with a roof of bark. The name suits it: the house has the shape of a spacious, sprawling country house. It is made of quality wood and gives your pet a safe place to rest, play and gnaw. At 34 cm wide, it is especially suitable for animals that like to stretch out.
Guinea pigs in particular appreciate that width. A guinea pig prefers to lie stretched out, with some room around it, but with a roof overhead. The Hacienda allows just that. Guinea pigs hardly climb and benefit most from plenty of floor space, in their hiding place too. For rats, the Hacienda is a roomy nest where a few animals can curl up together.
A few tips for setting it up. Place the Hacienda against a wall of the enclosure, so the back is sheltered. Put a thick layer of bedding in the enclosure and a good handful of hay by the entrance, so your guinea pigs can eat from the house. In a run, the Hacienda is a nice fixed spot to run to when things get exciting. The wood and bark encourage the natural urge to gnaw: your pet may chew it. If the house has been chewed away too far, replace it.
At 34 × 24 × 22 cm, the Hacienda is roomy for one guinea pig; guinea pigs that get along well sometimes lie in it together. Still, give each animal its own hiding place. Rats have enough room in it as a small group. Degus can use it as a hiding place, but they chew wood away quickly, so keep a close eye on the house.
Put a layer of Zooply bedding for guinea pigs under and around the Hacienda. For rats, finish it off with Zooply nesting material for rats, so they can build a soft nest themselves.
Also for dwarf rabbits. With an inside height of up to about 22 cm, the wooden house Hacienda is also a lovely hideout for a dwarf rabbit, a place to lie down and hide in peace. For medium and large rabbits this house is too low: they need to be able to sit upright, so choose a larger rabbit house for them. Place the house on a thick layer of Zooply bedding so your rabbit lies soft and dry.
They can, if they get along well. The 34 cm width gives room. Still, guinea pigs do not always want to lie together. So put at least one hiding place per animal in the enclosure, and preferably one extra.
Yes. A familiar house in the run gives guinea pigs confidence, so they will walk around and explore more. Put the house in a sheltered spot, not in full sun and not on wet ground.
Yes, that is fine. The house encourages the natural urge to gnaw. Rats are curious and often investigate the bark first. Replace the house once it has been chewed away too far or no longer stands firmly.
Sweep or brush the house out when you clean the enclosure. Remove wet hay, dirty nesting material and leftover fresh food. Keep the wood and bark dry; do not put the house on the toilet corner.
Both have a bark roof. The Hacienda is wider and slightly lower, nice for guinea pigs that like to stretch out. The Mansion is taller, which rats enjoy as they like to sit upright. You can also use both, as two separate hiding places.
