Tall wooden house with a bark roof, made of quality wood. A safe place to rest, play and gnaw for guinea pigs and rats. Read more.
The Duvo+ Mansion is a wooden house with character. The roof is made of bark, the house itself of quality wood. At 24 cm high, it is a properly tall house. That gives a roomy, airy feel inside. Your pet finds a safe place in it to rest, play and gnaw. The bark roof also makes the house a lovely, natural centrepiece in the enclosure.
Guinea pigs and rats each use a house in their own way. A guinea pig mainly looks for shelter: a place to hide when things get exciting, and to nap in peace. A rat sees a house more as a base camp. It carries food and nesting material there and builds a nest. Thanks to the height of the Mansion there is room for both, including room to sit upright.
Give the Mansion a fixed spot in the enclosure and leave it there. Animals like predictability; if the house keeps moving, they have to get used to it again. Put a thick layer of bedding underneath and some hay by the entrance. With rats, it is fun to hide a few treats in the nest so they have to search for them. The wood and bark encourage the natural urge to gnaw. Your pet may chew it, and that is how it should be. If the house has been chewed away too far, replace it.
At 31 × 25 × 24 cm, the Mansion is roomy for one guinea pig, even a larger one. For rats it is a pleasant sleeping spot for a group. Degus can use it as a hiding place, but they chew wood away quickly. With degus, check the house more often. If you keep guinea pigs, and you always keep at least two, provide at least one hiding place per animal.
Combine the Mansion with Zooply bedding for rats or Zooply bedding for guinea pigs. A low-dust, highly absorbent layer keeps the house and the enclosure fresh.
Also for dwarf rabbits. With an inside height of up to about 24 cm, the wooden house Mansion is also a lovely hideout for a dwarf rabbit, a place to lie down and hide in peace. For medium and large rabbits this house is too low: they need to be able to sit upright, so choose a larger rabbit house for them. Place the house on a thick layer of Zooply bedding so your rabbit lies soft and dry.
Rats like to sit upright and often build a big nest. A taller house gives them more room for that. Rats also need plenty of enrichment, such as hammocks and climbing spots. This house is a quiet sleeping spot within that setup.
Yes. With a 31 × 25 cm footprint the house takes up a fair amount of space, but it fits in most guinea pig enclosures. Make sure there is enough free floor next to the house to walk and eat.
Yes. Gnawing wood is normal and the house encourages the natural urge to gnaw. Unlimited hay remains the most important thing for the teeth. Replace the house once it has been chewed away too far.
Sweep or brush the house out when you clean the enclosure. Remove dirty nesting material and wet hay, and keep the wood and bark dry. With rats, you can leave part of the clean nest in place, which gives them peace.
Both houses have a bark roof and are meant for guinea pigs and rats. The Mansion is taller (24 cm), the Hacienda is wider (34 cm) and a little lower (22 cm). Choose the Mansion if your animals like to sit upright, and the Hacienda if you want more length.
