This house really stands out. The wooden playhouse Konijn from Duvo+ is shaped like an upright rabbit and coloured with animal-friendly paint. With its tall shape, it is a real eye-catcher in the enclosure. For your rodent, above all, it is a safe place to rest, play and gnaw.
Small rodents spend much of their life under cover. They look for a dark spot to sleep and dash away when something startles them. A house with a clear entrance then feels like a burrow of their own. The playhouse Konijn offers that calm, and it is simply fun to explore too. Mice like to climb along it and on top, and gerbils use it as a lookout. The wood may be gnawed. Gnawing is, after all, completely natural for rodents.
Because the house is tall and fairly narrow, a firm spot is important. Press the base well into a deep layer of bedding, or place it against the wall of the enclosure. That way it stays upright, even when your pet digs around it. Put a little nesting material inside for a warm sleeping nest. A fun tip: place the playhouse near a digging corner, and your pet will often dig a little tunnel towards it.
At 16.5 × 8.5 × 24 cm, this is a tall but narrow house. To be honest about the size: the depth is 8.5 cm. For dwarf hamsters, mice and gerbils that makes a fine hiding and sleeping place. For an adult Syrian hamster the inside is on the tight side. He can use it as an extra hiding place or climbing object, but also needs a roomier sleeping house.
Place the playhouse in a thick layer of Zooply bedding, so it stands firmly and your pet can dig around it. With Zooply nesting material you make the inside extra cosy. The wood may be gnawed. Once the playhouse has been chewed down too far, replace it.
As a sleeping house it is too tight for an adult Syrian hamster, because of the 8.5 cm depth. He can hide in it or climb against it, though. Also give him a roomier house to sleep in, such as the playhouse Hangoorkonijn.
Set it firmly in a deep layer of bedding or against the wall of the enclosure. Then it stays upright. Check now and then that it is still steady, especially if your pet digs around it a lot.
Yes. According to the supplier, the playhouse is coloured with animal-friendly paint and is meant as a place to rest, play and gnaw. Gnaw marks are normal. Replace the house once it has been chewed down too far.
Lift the house, remove dirty nesting material and brush it out with a dry brush. Let the wood dry thoroughly if it has become damp. Then put some fresh nesting material back in.
At least one hiding place per animal is a good rule of thumb, preferably plus one extra. Gerbils often sleep together, but also want to be able to move away. So combine this house with other hiding places and tunnels.
