The Duvo+ Loft Benny is a sturdy, robust metal enclosure made for rats and ferrets. It measures 91.5 × 61.5 × 104 cm and has a ladder and an extra level. That gives room not only on the floor, but in height too. A large door opening makes caring for and furnishing the enclosure easy, and the enclosure has storage space. Thanks to the 4 wheels, you can move the Loft Benny without heavy lifting.
Rats and ferrets are both clever, active and curious animals. Rats like to climb, hide their food and keep discovering something new. Ferrets are playful and also sleep a lot, often 14 hours or more a day, preferably in a dark, soft sleeping spot. Both animals need plenty of room to move and plenty of enrichment. An enclosure with an extra level and a ladder helps, because your pet can climb and choose where it wants to be.
Furnish the Loft Benny with variety. Put a thick layer of low-dust bedding on the floor. Hang hammocks at different heights and add a few hiding places. Rats enjoy ropes and hidden food; ferrets love tunnels and a sleeping bag or hammock to sleep in. With ferrets, put a litter tray in a corner, as they can be litter trained. Rats often use a litter tray too. Use the storage space for bedding, food and hay, so everything is close at hand.
Who is this enclosure for? For rats and ferrets, with an honest note. Rats should always be kept in at least pairs, and ferrets usually enjoy the company of other ferrets. A cage from the shop is the basis, not the end point: the bigger, the better. So give your animals time out every day. For ferrets, that means a ferret-proof room where they can run and play; rats need daily attention and a safe play area outside the cage. Place the enclosure out of draughts, not in full sun and not next to a radiator.
A good floor completes the enclosure. Choose Zooply bedding for rats or Zooply bedding for ferrets. Rats have sensitive airways, so low-dust, highly absorbent bedding is extra important for them.
As an enclosure to sleep and rest in, it is a good basis. Ferrets also need daily time out in a ferret-proof room. A cage alone is never enough for a ferret to run and play.
Rats should be kept in at least pairs, preferably in a small same-sex group. How many animals fit well depends on how you furnish it and how much time out they get. If in doubt, choose fewer animals and more enrichment.
Put a thick layer of bedding on the floor and hang hammocks at different heights. Add a few houses and hide food now and then, so they have to search. A litter tray in a corner makes keeping it clean easier.
With the 4 wheels you can move the enclosure easily, for example to clean behind it. Then put it back in a fixed, quiet spot. Your animals feel more at ease if the enclosure does not keep moving.
Refresh dirty spots and the litter tray regularly and replace the bedding in time, so no ammonia smell builds up. Take out hammocks and houses, shake them out and check them for loose threads. Make sure everything is dry before you put it back.
