Some rodents love nothing more than crawling into something soft. The plush house Pompoen from Duvo+ is made of soft plush and gives your pet a cosy nesting feeling. With its cheerful pumpkin shape, it is a fun eye-catcher in the enclosure too. You simply hang it in any enclosure, adding a warm sleeping spot off the ground.
A soft house feels like a nest to many small rodents. They curl up inside, sleep comfortably sheltered and only come out when they feel like going exploring. The house is also a fun activity: your pet climbs in, crawls out and works out how it hangs. Mice in particular, who love to climb, adore a hanging spot. It adds an extra layer to the enclosure.
Try hanging the house at different heights and see where your pet likes it best. Start low, just above the bedding, so less nimble climbers can reach it too. Make sure there is a steady route to it, for example via a level, a branch or a small staircase. Put a thick layer of bedding underneath, so every jump down is soft. Always offer a hiding place on the ground as well. Not every animal chooses a hanging house.
At 12 × 12 × 15 cm, this is a nice size for dwarf hamsters and mice. A Syrian hamster fits inside too, but prefers to make his nest on the ground; in that case hang the house very low or lay it down. Gerbils like to shred material for their nest. With them, check extra carefully that they do not chew the plush to pieces.
A hanging house needs a soft landing underneath. Provide a deep layer of Zooply bedding, which your pet can also dig in and build a second nest. Plush is soft, but not meant to be eaten. Check during the first few days that your pet does not gnaw the fabric or swallow bits. If it does, remove the house and choose a wooden one.
A Syrian hamster fits inside, but Syrian hamsters usually prefer to sleep on the ground in a nest they have dug themselves. If you still want to offer it, hang it low or lay it on the floor. Also provide a roomy house on the ground.
Not too high. Small rodents judge height poorly. A spot a little above the bedding, reachable via a level or branch, is ideal. Feel free to try a few heights and see what your pet likes best.
A little plucking is not an immediate problem, but your pet must not swallow pieces of fabric. If you see it really chewing the plush to pieces, remove the house. In that case, offer a wooden house, which may be gnawed.
Shake the house out regularly and brush off loose bedding and hairs. Remove old food remains and make sure it stays dry. Do not hang it directly under the water bottle.
Yes, especially with a group of mice. Hang several houses at different heights so every animal has a spot. Combine them with a wooden house on the ground, so your pet also has something to gnaw on.
At 't Knaagplein in Bodegraven we work with rodents and rabbits every day. We know some animals adore soft sleeping spots, and that plush does need a watchful eye. That is why we choose accessories we consider a good fit ourselves and give honest advice. Combine this house with Zooply, our own brand, for a soft landing underneath.
