Woven grass house of grass with corn leaves for hamsters and gerbils. A hiding place to sleep in, nibble on and eat. Read more.
Gerbils and hamsters love to shred and gnaw everything they come across. This Trixie grass house is made for exactly that. It is woven from grass with corn leaves and serves as both a hiding place and gnawing material. Your pet can sleep in it peacefully, but also nibble bits off the wall and carry them to its nest. That makes the house a little piece of nature in the enclosure.
At 16 × 12 × 16 cm this is the larger version. It is intended for gerbils and hamsters. Dwarf hamsters have plenty of room in it. For a Syrian hamster it is a suitable size, but with a very large Syrian hamster, check that it can get in and out easily. For mice you can also choose the smaller 13 × 10 × 13 cm grass house.
Gerbils are burrowers. So place the grass house on or in a deep layer of Zooply bedding for gerbils. You can bury it halfway, or pile the bedding up against the back. Then it feels like the entrance to a burrow. For hamsters, use Zooply bedding for hamsters. Put some Zooply nesting material next to the house. Your pet decides for itself where the nest goes.
The grass house may be nibbled and eaten. Gerbils often do so faster than you would expect, and that is fine. Once the house is gone or gnawed away so far that it no longer offers shelter, replace it. Make sure there is always another hiding place in the enclosure. Gerbils live in pairs or small groups, and then a second house is a good idea anyway.
Keep the grass house dry. Grass is a natural material and should not get wet. If it gets dirty or damp, remove it and put down a new one. Otherwise, you do not need to move it during regular cleaning. Your pet likes its familiar spot to stay where it is.

Not with water. Shake out loose bedding and keep it dry. If it is wet or dirty, replace it.
That is recommended. Provide at least one hiding place per animal and preferably one extra. Then each animal can retreat when it wants to.
