In the wild, rodents spend much of the day looking for food. In an enclosure, food is usually ready and waiting. With this foraging toy from the Esve Mix & Play range you bring back some of that searching behaviour. It is a 30 cm bamboo stem with three openings.
Fill the stem through the openings with dried herbs, some hay or a few treats. Your pet smells that there is something tasty inside and gets to work. It sniffs, roots with its nose and picks the pieces out. Clever animals such as rats and degus figure it out quickly. Make it harder by tucking the food in deeper or covering it with hay.
At 30 cm this is the longest version with openings in the range. It suits rats, degus and guinea pigs, and in a spacious enclosure also gerbils and Syrian hamsters. Bamboo may be gnawed, which is part of the fun. Replace the stem when it has been chewed too far or sharp splinters appear.
