A coconut chew and play item from the Mix & Play Sling series. Sturdy material for rodents that enjoy a challenge. Read more.
Coconut is a sturdy natural material. It is harder than most chew toys made of hay or soft wood. That is why the Sling Coco Pod from the Esve Mix & Play range lasts longer with keen gnawers. Rats and degus in particular, which destroy everything in no time, will enjoy it for a long while.
You can use a coconut item in different ways. Simply let your pet gnaw and sniff at it. Or hide something tasty in, under or next to it, so your pet has to search. Do not smear anything sweet on it: degus and dwarf hamsters are sensitive to sugar, and for other rodents treats should also remain a small extra.
Rodent teeth keep growing for life. Gnawing on sturdy, natural material keeps them busy. It is also a good distraction if your pet tends to chew bars or plastic. Check the Coco Pod regularly. If sharp edges or loose fibres appear, replace it. Also remove it if it has become wet and no longer dries properly.
Hamsters, gerbils and mice can gnaw coconut too, they just take much longer. That is no problem. Also offer softer chewing material such as willow wood, so they can choose.
Yes, feel free to hide a few herbs or treats in or around it. Keep it to a small amount and only give degus sugar-free treats.
Brush off loose bedding and dirt and let it dry well. If it is dirty or mouldy, throw it away.
