A chew stick from the Mix & Play Sling series. To gnaw on, drag around and play with. For rats, hamsters, guinea pigs and more. Read more.
A stick may be the most natural chew toy there is. In the wild, rodents gnaw on twigs, roots and stems every day. The Sling Stick from the Esve Mix & Play range brings that back into the enclosure. Your pet can gnaw on it, drag it around or lean on it while exploring.
Why is gnawing so important? Rodent teeth keep growing throughout their lives. Gnawing keeps them busy and supports natural wear. For hay eaters such as guinea pigs and degus, unlimited hay remains the most important thing for teeth and molars. A chew stick is a nice extra and a good distraction when your pet is bored.
Boredom sometimes shows as behaviour like chewing the bars or restless pacing. A few chewing options spread around the enclosure help against that. Place the stick in the hay, in a tunnel or next to the hideout, for example. Rats and degus are fast gnawers, so a stick goes quicker with them than with a mouse. Replace it when it is gnawed too far.
No. For guinea pigs and degus, unlimited hay remains the basis for healthy teeth. The stick is an extra activity.
In a spot your pet visits often, such as next to the hideout, in a tunnel or in the hay. That way it gets used more.
That depends on your pet. Rats and degus gnaw much faster than mice or hamsters. Replace the stick when little is left.
