A wooden chew and play item from the Mix & Play Sling series. Fits a natural setup and may be gnawed to pieces. Read more.
More and more rodent owners set up the enclosure as a little piece of nature, with cork, roots, branches and a deep layer of bedding. This is called scaping. The Sling Wood from the Esve Mix & Play range fits nicely into such a setup. It is a wooden item your pet can climb, sniff and gnaw.
Wood is the classic chewing material. Rodent teeth keep growing throughout their lives. Gnawing on wood keeps them busy and helps with natural wear. So the wood may be destroyed. In fact, that means the toy is doing its job. Replace the item when it is gnawed too far or sharp pieces appear.
Setup tip: do not place the wooden item in the middle of an empty space, but combine it with other elements. Lean it against a hideout, next to a piece of cork or half buried in the bedding. That creates nooks and passages. Hamsters and gerbils feel safer in an enclosure with many such spots. Rats and degus, on the other hand, climb right over it.
Scaping means furnishing the enclosure naturally with safe materials such as cork, wood, branches and a deep layer of bedding. That way your pet can dig, climb and hide just like in nature.
Yes. Wooden toys are meant to be gnawed. Replace it when little is left or it develops sharp edges.
Brush or knock off dirt and bedding and let it dry well. Wood that stays wet or dirty is best replaced.
