Christmas house made of a piece of log with bark, decorated as a reindeer with antlers and a red pompom nose. A festive hiding place for rodents. Read more.
A reindeer in your hamster's enclosure? With this log house you bring the Christmas spirit into your home in a cheerful way. The house is made of a piece of log with bark. At the front there are two brown antlers and a red pompom nose, turning the log into a reindeer. It is a fun Christmas touch, but above all a real hiding place, and that is what matters for small rodents.
Hamsters, mice and gerbils feel safest when they can crawl away into something. A piece of log fits nicely with how they live in the wild, among roots, trunks and burrows. The house has a round entrance at the front and an open top. Your pet can hide in it, but also climb over the edge and look around from the top. Put a tuft of Zooply nesting material inside and your pet will turn it into a cosy nest.
Place the house on a deep layer of Zooply bedding for hamsters, for mice or for gerbils. You can also bury it a little, so the entrance sits just above the bedding. To your pet that feels like the entrance to a burrow. Choose a quiet spot, not right next to the wheel or under the water bottle, so the house stays dry.
No dimensions are known for this house. So when you put it in, check that your pet fits easily through the round entrance and can turn around comfortably inside. For mice, dwarf hamsters and gerbils a piece of log is often a nice size. If you have an adult Syrian hamster, check extra carefully that the entrance is wide enough. In any case, provide at least one hiding place per animal, and preferably one extra.
The wood may be gnawed. That is normal and part of being a rodent. The decoration is a different matter. The material of the antlers and nose is unknown and looks like felt or fabric. So keep a close eye on whether your pet gnaws off and eats the antlers or nose. If you see that happening, remove them. The house then simply remains a nice log to hide in, after the holidays too.
On the wood, yes, that is normal behaviour. Do keep an eye on the antlers and the pompom nose. If your pet gnaws them off or eats them, remove them.

That depends on the size of the log and the entrance. With an adult Syrian hamster, check extra carefully that the entrance is wide enough.
Yes. If you like, remove the antlers and nose, and you have a regular log you can use all year round.
Shake out loose bedding and brush the wood clean while dry. Keep the house dry. Leave part of the nesting material behind, so the scent stays familiar.
