Guinea pigs and rabbits are prey animals. They feel most comfortable when there is always a place to duck under for a moment. This Trixie cardboard bridge is such a place, and something to keep busy with at the same time. It is a cardboard arch of 17 × 15 × 37 cm. Your pet can hide under it, walk through it and gnaw on it. Cardboard may be gnawed and shredded, so you do not have to worry about something breaking that should have stayed intact.
The bridge is mainly suitable for guinea pigs. They fit underneath easily and like to use it as a stopover while pottering around. Because it is open at both ends, they are never trapped. Skittish guinea pigs appreciate that. Dwarf rabbits and smaller rabbits can also get underneath. For larger rabbits the space under the bridge is tight. They will rather use it as something to gnaw and push around.
Place the bridge in the enclosure or the play area, on a layer of Zooply bedding for guinea pigs or for rabbits. Put some hay under it or on top. It then becomes a place where your pet can sit and eat calmly with a roof over its head. With a group of guinea pigs you can put down two bridges, so nobody has to wait.
Cardboard may be gnawed to pieces. How fast that happens differs per animal. Some guinea pigs leave the bridge intact for a long time, while a rabbit sometimes makes a good start on it in one afternoon. That is fine. Replace the bridge when it is damaged or has become wet. Wet cardboard loses its shape and can go mouldy. So do not place the bridge where your pet urinates, and outdoors only use it in a dry, covered spot.
Cleaning is not necessary. A cardboard bridge is a consumable: use it until it is finished, then put down a new one. If you want to offer your pet a permanent hiding place in the meantime, make sure there is also a house in the enclosure. At least one hiding place per animal, and preferably one extra, keeps the group calm.

Your guinea pig may gnaw and shred the cardboard. That is normal behaviour. Hay remains the most important thing to chew on, though. Replace the bridge when it is damaged.
Only in a dry, covered spot. Cardboard cannot cope with rain or damp. If the bridge has become wet, replace it.
No, you do not clean cardboard. If it is dirty or wet, throw it away and put down a new one.
Yes, put some hay under it or on top. Your pet then has a sheltered spot to eat in peace.
