Small cardboard bridge to hide under, climb over and gnaw to pieces. For mice, dwarf hamsters and gerbils. Read more.
Sometimes the simplest toy is the most fun. This Trixie cardboard bridge is an arch of cardboard that your pet can hide under and climb over. And once it is done with that, it will gnaw it to pieces. That is allowed, because cardboard is made to be shredded. Mice, hamsters and gerbils in particular love turning it into scraps and carrying them to their nest.
The bridge measures 9 × 7 × 17 cm. That is a small size, designed for small rodents. Mice and dwarf hamsters can easily get underneath. Gerbils like it too, although for them it is mostly something to shred. For an adult Syrian hamster the space under the bridge is tight. It will use the bridge to climb on and gnaw rather than to hide under.
Place the bridge on a deep layer of Zooply bedding for hamsters, for mice or for gerbils. You can also bury it halfway, creating a kind of tunnel entrance. Scatter a few pieces of your pet's regular food under the bridge, and it becomes a search spot. With gerbils, you can also put some Zooply nesting material underneath. They will turn it into a nest themselves.
Cardboard may be gnawed. That is why you buy it. How long a bridge lasts depends entirely on your pet. A calm dwarf hamster sometimes leaves it standing for weeks, a pair of gerbils turns it into confetti within days. Replace the bridge when it is damaged, and also when it has become wet. Wet cardboard goes limp and can go mouldy.
So do not place the bridge under the water bottle or where your pet urinates. Cleaning is not necessary: if it is dirty or wet, throw it away and put down a new one. Because the bridge is small, you can also place a few in the enclosure at once, so your pet has a choice.
Your pet may gnaw and shred the cardboard. That is normal behaviour. Rodents usually use the scraps as nesting material. Replace the bridge when it is damaged.

At 9 × 7 × 17 cm the space underneath is tight for an adult Syrian hamster. It can climb on it and gnaw it, though. For hiding, the bridge is intended for mice, dwarf hamsters and gerbils.
No, you do not clean cardboard. If the bridge is dirty or wet, replace it with a new one.
Yes, that is handy, especially with a group of mice or gerbils. Each animal then has its own spot and there is plenty to shred.
