Small woven tunnel made of 100% natural grass. For mice and dwarf hamsters to crawl through, hide in and nibble on. Read more.
Mice and dwarf hamsters love darting through narrow passages. In the wild they run through burrows and along dense vegetation, where they feel safe. This Trixie grass tunnel gives them a taste of that in the enclosure. The tunnel is woven from 100% natural grass. Your pet crawls through it, sits in it for a while and nibbles at it in between. That makes the tunnel both a hiding place and something to keep busy with.
The tunnel has a diameter of 6 cm and is 15 cm long. That is a narrow tunnel, which is why it is intended for mice and dwarf hamsters. For a Syrian hamster a 6 cm diameter is too tight. For larger animals, choose a wider tunnel. Mice actually feel comfortable in such a narrow passage, because they can feel something around them on all sides.
You can use the grass tunnel in several ways. Simply lay it on the floor as a link between two spots, for example from the house to the food bowl. Or bury it halfway in a deep layer of Zooply bedding for mice or for hamsters, so it feels like an underground passage. Tuck a little Zooply nesting material inside, and it becomes a cosy spot for a short rest.
The tunnel may be nibbled and eaten. It is made of grass, so that is part of it. Some animals leave it intact for a long time, others quickly gnaw holes in it. Once the tunnel is gone or gnawed away so far that it is no longer a tunnel, replace it. Because it is small, you can easily put down several. That is handy with a group of mice.
Keep the tunnel dry. A wet grass tunnel should be removed and replaced. So do not put it directly under the water bottle. Otherwise, there is little you need to do. Shake out loose bedding now and then and leave it in place, so your pet keeps using its familiar route.
