Red and white Christmas stocking to hang in the cage and fill with hay, grass or nesting material. A festive touch for hamsters, rats, mice and gerbils. Read more.
For many people, hanging up a Christmas stocking is part of the holidays. With this Trixie Christmas stocking you can do the same in your rodent's enclosure. The stocking is red and white and measures 13 × 20 cm. You hang it in the cage and fill it with hay, grass or nesting material. Your pet pulls the filling out bit by bit and carries it to its nest. That makes the stocking not just cheerful to look at, but also something to keep busy with.
The stocking is made of cotton with a sheepskin look in polyester. It is intended for small rodents: hamsters, rats, mice and gerbils. Mice and rats love to climb and will often investigate the stocking from all sides. Hamsters and gerbils mainly pluck out the filling and drag it to their burrow. Hang the stocking at a height your pet can reach easily, without having to climb high.
Fill the stocking with Zooply nesting material for hamsters, for rats or for mice. Do not pack it too tightly, so your pet can still pull it out. You can also use a tuft of hay or grass. The nice thing is that you can refill the stocking again and again. Once it has been plucked empty, simply put something new in.
The stocking is made of fabric, and that comes with some honest advice. Watch closely during the first days to make sure your pet does not gnaw the fabric itself or swallow bits of it. Most animals focus on the filling, but some rats and hamsters also chew textiles. If you see that happening, remove the stocking. Also check it regularly for loose threads, so little feet do not get tangled.
The stocking has a Christmas theme, but you do not have to put it away after the holidays. As long as your pet uses it well and it stays intact, you can simply leave it hanging. Keep the stocking dry and shake it out now and then. If it is dirty, damaged or has become wet, replace it.
