Natural chew garland with woven treat balls, small pine cones, tree trunk slices and a Bell Cup nut, approx. 29 cm. Hide snacks in it for your rat or hamster. Read more.
Rats are clever and curious, hamsters are true sniffers. Both love searching for food, and in the wild they have to work hard for it. The Chew Tower from Back Zoo Nature brings that challenge into their own enclosure. It is a garland of natural parts: woven treat balls, small pine cones, slices of tree trunk and a Bell Cup nut. You can hide a snack in many of those parts.
Then your pet gets to work. It pulls at the woven balls, picks between the scales of the pine cones and gnaws on the wood slices. Every part is different and needs a different approach, which keeps your pet busy for a long time. Back Zoo Nature describes all parts as natural and safe to shred. Gnawing is also simply necessary for rodents, as their teeth keep growing throughout their lives.
The garland is about 29 cm long. Back Zoo Nature describes it as suitable for smaller rodents such as hamsters and young rats. Rats get the most out of it, because they love to climb and hang. Hang the garland in the cage so they can reach it from a level or hammock. A group of rats will tackle it together with great enthusiasm. For a hamster, hang it low, so it can easily reach it from the floor and does not have to climb. In a tank without bars you can simply lay it on the floor.
Fill the parts with small pieces. For rats, Zooply snacks for rats are a good choice. For hamsters you can use Zooply snacks for hamsters. Do not give dwarf hamsters sweet snacks or fruit, as they are sensitive to sugar. Keep the amount small: snacks are an extra and rats put on weight easily. Swap the garland with other toys now and then. After a week away it feels new again. Hang it in a different spot too, so your pet has to discover it all over again.
The Chew Tower will fall apart, and that is the idea. Remove loose bits if they get wet or dirty. When the garland is mostly chewed away, replace it. Also check now and then that it still hangs securely.
Hang it near a level or hammock, so they can climb to it. Rats love to hang and scramble on it.
Yes, if you hang it low or place it on the floor. Do not hide sweet snacks or fruit in it.
In the woven treat balls, between the pine cone scales and in the Bell Cup nut.
Yes, that is what the garland is made for. Replace it when there is little left.
A few small pieces are enough. It is about searching, not about extra food.
