Woven grass basket filled with hay, corn leaves and wooden sticks. To pluck from, roll around and nibble away completely. Read more.
This small Trixie grass basket is a toy your pet may eat completely. The basket is woven from grass and filled with hay, corn leaves and wooden sticks. Everything is made of 100% natural material. Your pet first plucks the hay and corn leaves out of the basket, then gnaws on the sticks and finally starts on the basket itself. That makes it a toy that disappears in stages, keeping your pet busy for a while.
Why is something like this fun? Rabbits and rodents are naturally busy searching, plucking and gnawing. In a bare enclosure they get little chance to do so. A basket they have to pull things out of gives that natural urge an outlet. The basket is light, so rabbits and guinea pigs also like to push and roll it around the enclosure.
With a diameter of 9 cm the basket is small. For hamsters, gerbils, rats and degus that is a handy size they can hold and drag along. Guinea pigs and rabbits mainly use it to pluck at and roll around. For a large rabbit it is a small in-between treat that is often gone quickly. With degus it is good to know there are no sweet additions: only grass, hay, corn leaves and wood.
The basket does not replace regular hay. For rabbits, guinea pigs and degus fresh hay remains the basis, every day in a hay rack or in a fixed spot. For that, choose for example Zooply hay for rabbits, for guinea pigs or for degus. Once the basket has been plucked empty, you can stuff a tuft of that hay into it yourself. That way you can use the basket a little longer.
The basket may be nibbled and eaten. That is what it is made for. Once it is finished, or gnawed away so far that little is left, replace it with a new one. Keep the basket dry and do not put it in a puddle or under the water bottle. If it gets wet or dirty, remove it.
