Crawling in, peeking out the other end and then deciding to stay a little longer. The Duvo+ Carrot plush hanging tunnel is a soft, hanging tunnel with a cheerful carrot design. It combines two things rodents love: crawling through something and sleeping somewhere sheltered. That gives a cosy nesting feeling and a fun activity at the same time.
Mice, gerbils and rats naturally live in tunnels and burrows. A tunnel feels familiar and safe to them. Hanging it up also turns it into a climbing challenge: your pet has to scramble up to it before it can crawl in. For curious rats and lively mice, that is exactly the kind of variety that makes the enclosure more fun.
The hanging tunnel is easy to hang in any enclosure. Try it at different heights and see what your pet likes best. For gerbils, hang it low, just above a thick layer of bedding. Mice and rats can use it higher up, as long as they can reach it easily. Make sure it hangs securely, so it does not swing about when your pet jumps in.
At 27 × 12 × 12 cm the tunnel is ideal for mice and gerbils. Degus also like crawling through it, but they chew a lot; so keep a close eye on them. Rats fit in too, although it is a squeeze for a big rat buck. If you have large rats, choose a roomier sleeping spot from the Carrot series instead, such as the hanging house or the large hammock.
Plush is soft, but not meant for chewing. So check that your pet does not chew the fabric or swallow bits of it, and remove the tunnel if you see that. Also check regularly for loose threads. Put some Zooply nesting material for mice or for gerbils in the tunnel, and it becomes a lovely sleeping spot.
An average rat fits in. For a large rat buck it can be tight, because the tunnel is 12 cm wide and high. For large rats, a hanging house or hammock is often more comfortable.
The tunnel is made to be hung. On the floor it gets dirty faster from bedding and urine. So for gerbils, rather hang it low, just above the floor.
Yes, that makes it extra cosy. Use safe nesting material made of natural fibres. No cotton wool or synthetic nesting fluff, because the threads can wrap around little feet.
Take it out of the enclosure, shake it out and brush out loose hair and leftover nesting material. Keep the tunnel dry and check straight away for loose threads.
Yes, that works well. A hanging tunnel and a hammock at different heights give your pet the choice between lying sheltered and looking around in the open.
't Knaagplein in Bodegraven specialises in rodents and rabbits. We see mice, gerbils and rats in action every day, and we know how much they love crawling through tunnels. That is why we choose accessories that give that behaviour a place, and we are honest about which size of animal they suit. Add nesting material or bedding from Zooply, our own brand, to the tunnel.
