Long wooden house with a green roof and a darkened sleeping spot. A quiet hideout for the daytime, for guinea pigs and dwarf rabbits. Read more.
Being completely out of sight, lying in the half-dark and keeping an eye on the surroundings from a safe spot: that is what makes guinea pigs and rabbits happy. The Duvo+ Garden House is a long wooden house with a green roof. It is made of quality wood and gives your pets a darkened sleeping spot for the daytime. That way they always have a quiet place to retreat to.
Guinea pigs and rabbits are prey animals. They only feel truly at ease when they can hide somewhere. In a house they relax, take a nap and then dare to go exploring again with curiosity. The wood also invites chewing. That suits their natural urge to gnaw and keeps them busy at moments when they are not eating or sleeping.
Place the house on a deep layer of bedding, so it stands firmly and your pets can snuggle in. Put some hay inside or next to it; that makes it extra tempting to crawl in. Ideally place the house in a quiet corner of the enclosure, out of draughts and out of bright sunlight. If you keep several animals, provide at least one hiding place per animal, preferably one extra.
Honest about the size: the house is 48 cm long, 22 cm deep and 20 cm high. For guinea pigs that is a pleasant, roomy hideout. Dwarf rabbits and smaller rabbits fit in well too. For medium-sized and large rabbit breeds, the house is too low to sit in comfortably. It is also listed in our degu category. Degus chew through wood quickly, though, so replace it in good time with them.
A house works best on a clean, soft floor. So add a thick layer of Zooply bedding for guinea pigs or rabbits to the enclosure. The wood may simply be chewed. That is part of it and shows the house is being used. If the wood is chewed away too far, replace the house with a new one.
That depends on the breed. A dwarf rabbit or small rabbit fits in well. A medium or large rabbit cannot sit upright comfortably in a house that is 20 cm high. For a large rabbit, a roomier house is a better choice.
Yes, that is fine. Rabbits and guinea pigs have teeth that keep growing throughout their lives, and chewing is part of their natural behaviour. Hay remains the most important thing for wearing down the teeth, though. Replace the house once it has been chewed away too far.
Two guinea pigs can lie in it together if they get along well. Still, we recommend offering each animal its own hiding place, plus one extra. That way nobody has to chase another away.
Remove droppings and wet bedding and brush the wood out while dry. Above all, keep the house dry. Only put it back once it is completely dry after cleaning, and then add fresh bedding around it.
You can use it in an indoor hutch or in a sheltered outdoor hutch. Do not leave it out in the rain, because wood that gets wet often deteriorates faster. A dry, covered spot is best.
