Product description

Fruit cups apple - Soft jelly treat with apple flavour as a reward for rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, mice and gerbils - 6 pieces

A reward works best when it is truly special. These Fruit cups apple are small plastic cups of soft jelly with a sweet apple flavour. The pack contains six. Remove the plastic film and you can offer the cup straight away. The jelly is soft, so even small animals can easily lick and nibble it. According to Back Zoo Nature, the apple flavour is very well accepted by many rodents. That makes it a handy bite when you want your pet to do something, or simply want to spoil it.

What is inside? According to the packaging: sugar, fructose and fruit syrup, with preservatives and flavourings. The analytical constituents are crude protein 0.1%, crude fat 0.2%, crude fibre 0.3%, crude ash 0.426% and moisture 77.1%. So it is mainly a sweet snack with a lot of moisture. Back Zoo Nature itself says that fresh fruit always remains the best choice. The feeding advice is a maximum of 2 fruit cups per animal per week. For small animals, a whole cup is quickly too much. Give a few licks and then take the cup away.

Not every rodent may have this. Degus are sensitive to sugar and do not get sweet treats. Dwarf hamsters, such as Campbell's and Russian dwarf hamsters, are also sensitive to sugar. Give them very little, or preferably none. Rabbits and guinea pigs may have a little now and then. Hay remains the basis of their diet, so see the fruit cup as a small treat and keep it to a few licks. Gerbils may also have a little now and then: a few licks is enough. Remove any leftovers afterwards, so no jelly ends up in the bedding. Rats, fancy mice and Syrian hamsters may also have a little now and then. Keep an eye on your rats' weight, as they gain weight quickly. Looking for something for daily use? Have a look at the Zooply snacks for rats or the Zooply snacks for hamsters. For rabbits and guinea pigs, have a look at our rabbits and guinea pigs sections.

Use the apple cups wisely. Use one when taming: hold the cup in your hand so your pet comes to you to lick it. That builds trust. Or use it as a lure to get your rat back into its cage after free-roaming time. With a fruit cup holder you can hang the cup from the bars or place it on the floor of a tank. That way it stays clean and stands firmly. On warm days, you can put a cup in the freezer beforehand. Then it becomes a refreshing ice treat with apple flavour. With rabbits and guinea pigs, hold the cup for a moment and let them take a few licks, for example as a reward after brushing or nail clipping. Then take it away.

Do not leave an opened cup out for long. Remove it after a few hours, because soft jelly gets dirty quickly. A Syrian hamster wants to hoard everything. So check that it does not carry jelly to its nest in its cheek pouches, and remove it if needed. Store the remaining cups in a dry, cool and dark place, out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

May my rabbit or guinea pig have a fruit cup?

Yes, a little now and then. The jelly is sweet, so hay remains the basis. Give a few licks as a treat and stick to a maximum of 2 cups per animal per week.

May my gerbil have a fruit cup?

Yes, a little now and then. A few licks is enough. Remove the rest afterwards, so no jelly ends up in the bedding.

May my dwarf hamster have a fruit cup?

Preferably not, or only very little. Dwarf hamsters such as Campbell's and Russian dwarf hamsters are sensitive to sugar. A Syrian hamster may have a little now and then.

Is this treat suitable for my degu?

No. Degus are sensitive to sugar. Only choose sugar-free snacks and herbs for them.

How often can my Syrian hamster have a fruit cup?

According to the packaging, a maximum of 2 cups per week. A Syrian hamster is often happy with just a few licks.

Can I use the fruit cups to tame my rat?

Yes. Let your rat lick the cup from your hand. That way it learns that your hand means something tasty.

Does it really contain apple?

The composition lists sugar, fructose and fruit syrup, with flavourings. It is a jelly with apple flavour.

What is the difference with the Fruit cups mix?

This pack has six cups with apple flavour only. The mix has 24 cups in six other flavours.
