This Trixie Small Animal Hutch with Run is a long, low outdoor hutch measuring 175 × 110 × 70 cm. It is made of stained pine with powder-coated metal mesh, in grey. This low, wide format suits guinea pigs particularly well: they hardly climb and mainly need lots of floor space.
The hutch has four doors, so you can easily reach every part, also for cleaning. The roof sections are covered with roofing felt and open separately from above. In the base there is a removable floor tray with inserts of galvanised sheet metal. You take this tray out to replace the bedding.
The run has two mesh doors. This means you can use it flexibly and extend it with extra runs. Rabbits especially need this: they want to run, jump and stand upright. Always keep rabbits and guinea pigs in at least pairs, and provide at least one hiding place per animal, for example a little house with two exits.
Place the hutch out of draughts, not in full sun and sheltered from rain and frost. Guinea pigs do not cope well with heat, so take extra care when it gets warmer than about 25 °C. In winter, add an extra layer of straw to the hutch. Check the wood regularly for gnawing damage and for the condition of the stain, so the hutch lasts a long time.
Yes. The long, low format with lots of floor space suits guinea pigs well. Do add enough houses and tunnels, so they can always find somewhere to hide.
The floor tray is removable and has inserts of galvanised sheet metal. Take the tray out, remove the dirty bedding and put down a fresh layer.
