A piece of natural moss for your hamster's enclosure. Looks natural, is fun to sniff through and doubles as soft nesting material. Read more.
Hamsters are true builders. In the wild they dig tunnels and make a warm nest from whatever they find along the way. This Esve play moss fits that behaviour nicely. It is a piece of moss that you place in the enclosure. Your hamster can sniff through it, carry bits away and work them into its nest.
The moss also gives the enclosure a natural look. Do you like to set up your hamster's home as a little piece of nature, with cork, twigs and hiding places? Then this moss fits right in. Place it next to a hideout or in a corner where your hamster likes to rest. That creates variety, and variety helps against boredom.
Hamsters are crepuscular and nocturnal, so you will mostly see them busy in the evening. Let them sleep during the day and do not disturb the nest unnecessarily. When cleaning, only remove dirty or wet bits. A hamster that keeps losing its nest gets stressed.
Always offer the moss on a deep layer of bedding your hamster can dig in. The moss adds to that layer, it does not replace it. Both Syrian hamsters and dwarf hamsters will happily put it to use.
The moss is meant as enrichment and extra nesting material. Your hamster also needs a deep layer of bedding for digging. If you want to offer more nesting material, combine the moss with hay or special nesting material made from natural fibres.
Put it in a dry spot, for example next to the hideout or near a shelter. Your hamster will drag what it needs to its nest. Do not place it right under the water bottle, so it stays dry.
Yes, the play moss is made for hamsters. Dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters both like to sniff through it and use it to line their nest.
