Small, branched piece of natural spiderwood of about 23 to 30 cm. Climbing wood, resting spot and decoration in one. Every piece has its own shape. Read more.
The name says it all, really. The thin branches spread out in all directions, a bit like the legs of a spider. That makes this wood very suitable for furnishing an enclosure in a natural way. This Small measures about 23 to 30 cm. Your pet can climb on it, rest on it or disappear underneath. The branched shape creates extra routes and sheltered spots. The enclosure gets more structure and your pet has more to explore.
The small size is exactly what makes this piece handy. It also fits in a smaller enclosure or in a corner next to a hideout. That makes it suitable for dwarf hamsters and mice, but Syrian hamsters, gerbils and degus will enjoy it too. In a large enclosure you can combine several pieces into a small climbing route. For rats a larger piece of spiderwood is usually more fun, because they need more space to clamber over.
Spiderwood is one of the favourites for hamster scaping. Set the piece with a few branches into the bedding so that it stands firmly. A deep layer of Zooply bedding for hamsters holds the wood in place and gives your hamster the chance to dig underneath. Put some Zooply nesting material nearby. Your pet can then build a nest in the shelter of the branches. Spiderwood also looks great next to plants, a food bowl or other decorative wood.
Use the wood to let your pet search, too. Wedge a piece of snack or a few seeds between the branches. Mice and dwarf hamsters will happily climb up to it. Do not hang the wood up, but always let it rest on the floor. That way it cannot fall. Change its position now and then, or turn the piece around. A small change in the enclosure makes your pet curious again.
Spiderwood is a natural product. Every piece has its own shape, colour and branching, so the photo is an example. Chewing on the wood is normal and allowed. Do check now and then that no thin twigs have broken off and left sharp edges. If the wood has been chewed down a lot or has become wet in the toilet corner, replace it. Dirt can be brushed off dry.
About 23 to 30 cm long. Because it is a natural product, the exact shape differs per piece.
Yes. Thanks to the small size and the thin branches it works well in a mouse enclosure.
Yes, that is actually the best way. Push a few branches into a deep layer of bedding so that it stands firmly.
Yes, gerbils love to chew and that is normal. Replace the wood when it has been gnawed down too far.
Not necessarily. In a large enclosure, two or three pieces make a lovely climbing route.
