Small piece of black moorwood, shorter than 20 cm. A resting spot, climbing element and dark, natural decoration for small rodent enclosures. Every piece is unique. Read more.
Would you like to give your rodent's enclosure a calm, natural look? Then this piece of black moorwood is a lovely choice. The wood has a dark colour that stands out against light bedding such as hemp or wood fibre. It is a compact piece, shorter than 20 cm, so it also fits into a smaller enclosure. Your pet uses it as a resting spot, as a step to climb on, or as something to sniff around while exploring its surroundings.
Every piece of moorwood is unique. It is a natural product, so shape, colour and texture differ from piece to piece. The one you receive may therefore look different from the photo. That is exactly what makes decorating fun. With this wood you build your own landscape, with small differences in height and little corners your pet can tuck itself behind. Small rodents feel safer when they have cover. A piece of wood in the middle of an open area gives them a place to pause and look around.
Because of its small size, this moorwood is mainly meant for small rodents. Dwarf hamsters and fancy mice climb onto it easily and use it as a lookout. A Syrian hamster or gerbil will enjoy it as a step, for example next to the hideout or at the entrance of a tunnel. For degus it is an extra element between larger pieces of wood and levels. Rats, guinea pigs and rabbits get little out of such a small piece, so choose something bigger for them.
Use the wood for hamster scaping or to make a gerbilarium look more natural. Place it half buried in a deep layer of Zooply bedding, so it looks like an old root sticking out of the ground. Combine it with plants, vines or a food bowl, as Back Zoo Nature suggests itself. For mice, add a tuft of Zooply nesting material next to it, so they immediately have something to drag to their nest. Scatter a few seeds around the wood and it becomes a foraging spot too.
Rodents gnaw on wood, and this piece will be no exception. That is normal behaviour. Check the wood now and then. If it has been gnawed down too far or has become very dirty, replace it. When cleaning, it is best to leave the wood where it is. A familiar layout helps your pet feel at ease. Simply remove the soiled bedding around it and brush the wood off when needed.
The X-Small size is shorter than 20 cm. As it is a natural product, every piece differs in shape, colour and size.
