Product description

Moorwood - Compact piece of natural wood for scaping with hamsters, mice, gerbils and degus - Under 20 cm

Sometimes a small piece of wood is just what finishes an enclosure. This moorwood is a compact piece of natural wood, shorter than 20 cm. It has an irregular, natural shape with small differences in height and sheltered corners. Your pet can sit on it to look around, scramble over it or hide behind it. That way you add structure even to a smaller enclosure without taking up much space.

Every piece of moorwood is different. It is a natural product, so shape, colour and texture vary per piece. That makes it fun to work with, because your enclosure will never look exactly like anyone else's. Its natural look goes well with a floor of hemp or wood fibre and with greenery such as dried moss or hay.

Because of its small size, this piece suits small rodents best. A dwarf hamster or mouse uses it as a lookout and as a spot to tuck in behind. For a Syrian hamster, gerbil or degu it makes a nice extra step or a building block in a bigger landscape, next to a hideout and a few larger pieces of wood. For rats and rabbits it is too small to add much. Choose a bigger piece for them.

Moorwood is ideal for hamster scaping. Place it half buried in a deep layer of Zooply bedding. It then looks like an old root sticking out of the ground, and your pet can dig a little burrow underneath. Put a tuft of Zooply nesting material in a sheltered corner next to it. Combine it with plants, lianas or a food bowl to create a small, natural corner. Mice love lots of small spots, so with a group of mice you can easily spread a few pieces around.

Rodents gnaw, and this wood will be nibbled too. That is normal. Check the piece now and then and replace it when it has been chewed down too far or has become very dirty. When you clean out, you do not need to move the wood every time. A familiar layout gives peace of mind. Just remove the dirty bedding around it and tap the wood clean when needed.

Frequently asked questions

How big is this piece of moorwood?

The X-Small size is shorter than 20 cm. Because it is a natural product, every piece differs in shape and size.

Is moorwood suitable for a dwarf hamster?

Yes. Thanks to its compact size it fits well in a dwarf hamster enclosure, as a lookout or a place to hide behind.

May my hamster chew on the wood?

Gnawing is normal behaviour. Replace the wood when it has been chewed down too far or has become dirty.

Can I bury the wood?

Yes, that actually works nicely. Half buried in a deep layer of bedding, it creates a natural spot where your pet can dig underneath. Make sure it lies firmly and cannot fall over.

Is this piece big enough for rats?

For rats this piece is small. They get more out of larger pieces of wood to climb on. This moorwood is mainly meant for small enclosures.
