Approx. 30 grams of untreated, air-dried shredded wood. To dig in, hide in and nest with, and to hide snacks in. Read more.
Small rodents love diving into something light and fluffy. They dig in it, hide under it and drag it to their nest. Shredded Wood from Back Zoo Nature is made for that. It is shredded wood, 100% natural and untreated. The wood is only air-dried, without chemicals such as impregnating agents. It comes from sustainable forest areas with a PEFC certificate. The pack contains about 30 grams of wood wool.
Shredded Wood does not replace your bedding, but adds to it. First put a deep layer of Zooply bedding for hamsters in the enclosure. Scatter a few tufts of wood wool on top or partly mix it in. That gives the enclosure a natural look. Your pet can romp, hide and dig in it. The airy wood also gives the floor layer a bit more structure.
Shredded Wood is also suitable as nesting material. Place a tuft next to the hideout or house, and your pet will drag it inside itself. Hamsters and mice love to build a warm nest with it. You can combine it with Zooply nesting material or some hay, so your pet can choose. Want to know whether wood wool suits your pet? Start with a small amount and see what it does with it. Some animals drag everything inside, others prefer to use it as play material.
Wood wool works well for foraging too. Stuff a tuft into a chew toy or a cardboard tube and hide a few Zooply snacks for rats or some pellets in it. Your pet has to make an effort to reach its snack. Rats are clever and love a searching game like this. Gerbils often pull the wood wool completely apart, and that is fine. Degus can play with it too, as long as you only use sugar-free snacks.
Wood wool consists of long strands. Keep an eye on things the first few times, and check that no strands wrap around little feet. Remove wet or dirty material, for example from the toilet corner. With a hamster, leave the nest alone as much as possible. Only remove the dirty parts and add some fresh material. According to Back Zoo Nature the product is fully recyclable.
Preferably not. It is an addition to a deep layer of regular bedding, for enrichment and as nesting material.
According to Back Zoo Nature it is untreated, only air-dried wood without chemicals. Chewing and tearing it is normal.
Wood wool is light and airy. Using a few tufts at a time, it lasts quite a while.
