Large piece of black moorwood of approx. 40 to 55 cm. A resting spot, climbing element and natural decoration for a spacious rodent enclosure. Each piece is unique. Read more.
Some enclosures need one big centrepiece. A piece of wood that everything revolves around: the burrows underneath, the lookout on top and the paths around it. This black moorwood is such a piece. It is natural wood with a dark colour, in size Large of about 40 to 55 cm. The dark shade gives the enclosure a calm, natural look. It looks especially good next to light bedding and green moss or hay.
You can use the moorwood in different ways. As a resting spot where your pet lies on top to look around. As a climbing element to scramble over. Or as decoration that gives the enclosure more structure and depth. A large piece of wood creates differences in height, and with that new spots to discover. That makes an enclosure far more interesting than a flat floor with a few loose accessories.
At 40 to 55 cm this is a sizeable piece. It therefore fits mainly in a spacious enclosure. In a large tank or a setup for a Syrian hamster or gerbils you can build a whole landscape around it. Rats and degus are active climbers and use it as a climbing frame and lookout. For a smaller enclosure, for example for a dwarf hamster or a few mice, this piece is often too big. In that case choose a smaller size of moorwood.
Moorwood is ideal for hamster scaping. Place the piece half buried in a deep layer of Zooply bedding, so it looks like an old root coming out of the ground. Make sure it lies firmly and cannot tip, even when your pet digs underneath it. If you dig deep, press the bedding firmly around the wood. Combine it with plants, lianas, a hideout or a food bowl to create a natural corner. Scatter some hay or dried herbs around the wood, and your pet will go sniffing around it too.
Rodents gnaw, and they will nibble on moorwood as well. That is normal. Check the piece now and then and replace it once it has been chewed down too far or has become very dirty. When cleaning, you do not need to move the wood every time. A familiar layout gives your pet peace. Simply remove the dirty bedding around it and brush the wood off when needed. Because it is a natural product, every piece has its own shape, colour and structure. The piece you receive may therefore differ from the photo.
That depends on the size of your enclosure. At 40 to 55 cm it fits well in a spacious enclosure for a Syrian hamster. For a smaller enclosure a smaller size is more practical.
